Guided tours of the Landbeach Tithe Barn can be arranged during daylight hours, lasting 45 minutes. You will hear the story of the Barn and it’s relationship to the village and the Church.
About the Barn
This is a grade II listed medieval thatched building, rare in retaining much of its original timber frame and 18th century brick threshing floor. It was used to store the tithe, a tenth of the produce of the local villagers, which was given to the Rector of the parish church in earlier centuries.
About the Village
The barn looks out onto open Common land, close to a medieval waterway linked with the Roman Car Dyke running from the River Cam to Lincoln and York. The building is one of a cluster of historic sites in the village. Next door are the grade I listed Church of All Saints’ and the grade II* Old Rectory (Privately owned), both with 13th century origins, and the site of the former Chamberlains Manor dating from the Norman Conquest. The second medieval manor in the village, Brays, still retains its moat, and there are also 16th and 17th century cottages in the village.
